Read Me First: Preparing a data file for importing

It is most efficient to prepare and clean your data prior to importing. Doing so will save you from needing to correct and update records after the import is complete.

The first step is to determine which module you will import into.  You can find a list of modules that accept imports here. Then follow the preparation suggestions below.

  1. Review the Source File.
Determine which data fields you wish to import for a given module. For example, if you are importing Company records you will probably want to import at least the company name, address, phone numbers and web address, if you have it.
  2. Review the Data Requirements for the module to ensure that
    a) the source file contains the required fields, and
    b) the required fields contain valid data.
For example, Company records require the Company's Name. If this field is left blank the record will not import. Other fields, such as Company Type, may not have a value requirement but the import process will auto-fill a default value if the field is left blank. Review the Field Requirements for the given module for exact requirements.
  3. Review the field names of the source file and identify how you wish to map the data to aACE.
We recommend you download the Import Template from the module and either copy your data into it or change the field names in your source file to match. Click here to learn how to download an Import Template.

When your source file is ready, follow the instructions for importing records.
